Togo's Adebayor relives deadly Cabinda shooting during AFCON 2010

Togolese skipper, Emmanuel Sheyi Abedayor, has recalled how the Hawks – Togo national team – bus was attacked by gunmen in Angola’s Cabinda province during an African Cup of Nations tournament.

Two people – the team’s press officer and assistant coach – were killed and others injured when the team bus was attacked on January 8, 2010. Today, thus marks eight years since the incident took place.

In a Twitter post accompanied by a collage of four pictures recounting the deadly incident, the former Arsenal player said: “Its now been 8 years since our TOGO team bus was attacked by terrorists in Cabinda.

“2 people were killed & others injured. I pray 4 all the families involved in this deadly tragedy. Thankful for everything. Lets stay strong, lets stay united,” he added.

Angolan police special forces were subsequently deployed to the Olympic Village, where the Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso teams taking part in the African Nations Cup soccer tournament sere housed.

Aside the two members of Togo’s soccer delegation, the driver was also killed and seven others were wounded.
